Collaboration
between the NC Department of Health and Human Services began in the
very first year of the Center being housed at Appalachian State University.
The two agencies sponsored regional workshops in Smart Planning, Healthier
Babies, a curriculum designed to promote preconceptional health for
teachers of Healthful Living Education and Family and Consumer Sciences.
In
addition, the Center has offered sessions for NCSOPHE and the NC Public
Health Association titled, "Working with Schools: Collaboration Between
Public Health and Public Education." Public health educators are invited
to Center-sponsored workshops that promote communication and collaboration
such as "Health is Academic." Several writers and trainers who work
with the Center have strong backgrounds and expertise in public health.
